Nice & Easy String Trimmer [Posted on 2008-09-16]
I own a Stihl FS250 for serious work on large wooded acreage, but wanted a simple string trimmer for light to medium work that my wife (and I) could use around the house. I first bought an inexpensive 18V B&D which served only to prove that the convenience has merit, but even my wife thought it was weak and I returned it. So, after much deliberation primarily about the cost I bit the bullet and ponied up for the B&D 36V NST2036. I am pleased with the dual feed, excellent power for general purpose work and I think the battery life is adequate. There's more plastic than I had expected, especially considering the price. The charger has 2 charging bays. If B&D had included 2 batteries (same price) instead of only one, they would have a perfectly wonderful package. Instead, I resent the obvious marketting ploy to lure us back to buy another overpriced component. I'd allow myself to be more excited about the NST2036 if it wasn't for the cost and then some. For now I simply manage the 1 battery situation and my Stihl is rigged full time with a brush cutting blade.

Excellent motor, but battery does not go the distance. [Posted on 2008-09-20]
I purchased this hoping that a manufacturer had finally built a trimmer that was both powerful and had good battery life. Black & Decker got half of what I was looking for. The motor on this is as powerful as any gas model carving through thick clumps of grass from in between walkways stones with ease. The problem is that under this heavy use the battery lasts approximetly 15 minutes. It runs at full strength till the end, but the end comes to quickly for such an expensive battery. When I bought an extra battery for $100, I thought it would be a modern Nickle-Metal Hydride battery, it's not. The battery is Nickle Cadmium. I think if Black & Decker had used a more modern battery, it would have lasted a lot longer. Under heavy use had the battery lasted 25 minutes, I would have been satisfied (or if the battery was cheaper.)

Very Good - if you are realistic with expectations [Posted on 2008-10-16]
I've had this for over a month now. First project was to clear a walkway about 100' long with severe overgrowth (vines, vegetation, tall grass) and this thing shined. It has plenty of power and I was worried about battery life so I knocked everything down and then came back and "cleaned" things up.
Standard use has been on my yard. Just under a half acre, takes me about 20 minutes to trim and I can usually get two yard cutting excursions done with one battery charge...running at full steam a majority of the time.
This unit has plenty of power compared to the 18v trimmer I tried previously and it actually maintains "gas" level power for a good solid 35-40 minutes. I will say it's a big letdown though when the battery does lose it's charge...especially coming from a gas trimmer. (with this you wait, with gas you refill...so you need some patience)
The main drawback so far is the line feed system. I think it works well, but from the factory the spool is over wound. I'd rather have less string on the spool and refill more often than the constant binding from too much string on the spool and having to take the cover off because the line won't feed while tapping the unit. This has been an issue with gas trimmers in the past as well and will just take some experimenting.
The unit is heavy, but no more than a solid built gas unit. If you have trouble holding 15lbs for any amount of time, maybe it's not the unit for you.
Edging is not a problem. I read some reviews before purchasing that said this unit would not function as an edger, but I've got curbs, flowerbeds and a driveway that say otherwise. Just tilt the unit, keep the head behind you as you move down the line and it works just fine.
I do wish an extra battery was more realistically priced, and if you have a larger yard (say an acre with flowerbeds and trees, etc) you'll probably want the extra battery, just in case. If you're like me and have an average sized yard, this will be fine. Re-charging usually takes an overnight period.

Overall, I give this unit four stars. It's tough, reliable, functions smoothly and only has a few minor quirks which I'm sure will be worked out as I get used to owning and operating. If you are like me and just can't mix gas for a 2 cycle motor, get this or pay another $100 ($350 total) and buy a 4cycle trimmer that does it for you. This one seems better for the environment.

CORDLESS WEEDEATER [Posted on 2008-11-09]
Definately more powerful than the 18V types. The batteries only last 15-20 minutes at a time, and recharging the battery takes 8 or more hours.
Not exactly as advertised and relatively expensive for the performance.

36 volt cordless string trimmer [Posted on 2008-11-16]
The ad said it worked like a gas powered weedeater and they were telling the truth. There will be a learning curve on the trigger as it is sensitive, but doable. After reading other reviews before purchasing I went ahead and got an extra battery. The trimmer ran well over an hour without changing the battery and I think once I can control the speed with the trigger I will get even more time. I also ordered an extra spool in case I broke this one.
