Bosch router problems [Posted on 2008-01-07] This router was highly rated, but it was not what it was stated to perform. We returned it once as a part was loose in box. The second one, we also returned & got a refund. All processes was handled in a timely & efficient manner.
Awesome Router [Posted on 2008-02-05] She's big and can do most anything. I am impressed with how easy it is to use and how smooth the plunging is. Like I said it's big so if you are looking for something smaller (and obviously less power) then this may not be the one but for a powerfull all encompassing router this is a great one.
One recommendation to Bosch though is to maybe use a stronger more flexible plastic for the shop vac connection accessory. This seems to be the only cheap piece.
P.S. if you want to do dovetails I suggest purchasing Bosch's 7 piece dovetail guide/adaptor kit (sorry can't remember the actual name of it). If you use Porter Cables dovetail jig the guides that mount to the router are screw on and Bosch does not have screw on, it has a very usefull accessory piece that items clamp into and their kit will accomodate most anyones guide or template piece.
router box [Posted on 2008-05-25] Yes i like the bosch router 1619 evs,but you need lot,s of room under the router box to make adjustments .
Power [Posted on 2008-09-16] I bought this router for my cabinet shop. I use it to make raised panel doors. When I first received and unpacked it I thought maybe the next model down would have been better. But after using it I wouldn't trade it.
I only used it once freehand and the soft start is good without it I don't think it would be easily controlled when starting. I ordered an aluminum router plate for mounting from Rockler. Since I mounted it in the router table it has done well little to no vibration when spinning large bits. And plenty of power. All the controls are simple and straightforward. It fine adjusts easily but even with the plunge spring disengaged it is hard to make the coarse adjustments. It would be nice to have a spring of some sort to help lift the weight of the motor.
All in all it does exactly what it needs to get the job done. If you want to table mount it then you won't be disappointed. If you are looking for a hand held I might go for the next smaller model unless you use a fence or guide.
Would be a 5 star rating but I have a couple of nits to pick. [Posted on 2008-10-08] The 1619EVS is the best overall unit I've ever used (and there have been many) at any price, however, I do have a couple of issues. First off, this is a monstrously big and heavy unit and although I'm glad for the sturdiness and stability that affords, man are my arms tired after a couple of hours. There is little that Bosch can do without sacrificing quality, however, forewarned is forearmed. The second thing is that although very efficient and effective, the dust control hood poorly designed for the material used. It's formed from 16th inch plastic and mine broke at the collar within minutes of use. I was able to fix and reinforce it, but that only lasted for another couple of months and only then because I was very aware of its fragile state and babied it. Eventually I was forced to call Bosch customer service and request a replacement under warranty and I'm delighted to tell you that my experience with them at this level was everything you could hope for. They listened sympathetically to my whining and cheerfully sent out a replacement without so much as a proof of purchase request. I own a few Bosch tools and have until now never needed the warranty service, but armed with the knowledge of their level of support, I'm absolutely planning on making future acquisitions Bosch equipment when possible.
A great product backed up by 1st class customer service.
